Insure Yourself Online

Anymore it seems like the Internet is all we need — to do Christmas shopping, grocery shopping, even to purchase various kinds of insurance.  These are all the kinds of insurance that you can find information on, and even buy, online:

  • Car insurance – The type of insurance almost everyone has to buy themselves, of course this is available online.  In fact, I think it was the first insurance industry to use the Internet so much — I remember Progressive being online in the late 90s and early 2000s.
  • Health insurance – People usually get health insurance from their employers these days, but most health insurance companies put information about individual plans online, including (usually) the forms that you need to fill out to apply for a policy.  You may even be able to get your health and account information online, depending on your provider.
  • Disability insurance – Physician disability insurance and disability insurance for others who have their own practices tends to be pretty popular, since these people don’t have the luxuries of things like sick pay or disability leave.  It’s pretty common to find disability insurance quotes online, either directly from the disability insurance companies or via a third party website.
  • Life insurance – Life insurance protects your family by granting them financial security in the event that you pass away unexpectedly.  You can find information on this online, too.

You can find basically anything online these days, as businesses in all different industries are catching onto people’s preference to be able to do as much as possible online!

Managing the Pain

I  have a medical condition for which there is no cure.  So for me, it’s not so much about getting rid of the pain; it’s more about chronic pain management.  I have tried everything from drugs to massage to accupuncture; they have all worked for me to a certain extent, but none work alone.  After all of these years, I’ve finally learned that in order to manage my pain, I have to utilize a variety of things to help alleviate the suffering.  The latest addition to my arsenal is magnetic therapy.  This, along with my other treatments, has been a real lifesaver. The lower back pain relief I experience is amazing now that I’ve added this to my treatments.  I know I will never be lucky enough for my pain to be completely gone, but this sure helps make my days much better and much more productive.  There are days where I might rely more on one treatment than another, but in the end I find if I continually utilize this variety of treatments, I am a much happier person during the day.

The Best Reason to Pursue a Career

The best reason to pursue a career is not because it will make you a lot of money, because it offers a lot of opportunities for success, or even because you think you are good at it — the best reason is because it makes you happy.

Too many people spend 30 or 40 years in a career that makes them unhappy.  Think about how many people you know who talk about how much they hate their jobs.  Or — since I’m sure you’ve had at least one job that you’ve hated — think of how miserable you’ve been when you have had to get up and go to a job you hate every morning.

It’s just not worth wasting the best years of your life on a career that makes you miserable.  Unfortunately, oftentimes others discourage us from pursuing the jobs we do enjoy, saying they are not reliable sources of income, or don’t offer enough room for advancement.  While these people are usually well-meaning, they often don’t actually know what they are talking about.

For instance, say you love golf, and you think a golf career would make you pretty happy.  Of course, most people are immediately going to assume you mean you want to be a pro golfer, which of course is difficult to make a living at.  So they’re going to discourage you.

But what they don’t know is that there are many golf careers that don’t require you being the next Tiger Woods in order to be successful.  For instance, groundskeepers (called greenskeepers when they work on a golf course) are important people in the golf industry.  The Occupational Outlook Handbook, released every year by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, states that the demand for groundskeepers is pretty sizeable.  It also says that most workers in this field don’t have any education higher than a high school diploma, which means even greater job security if you have been trained by one of the better known golf schools.

There is always at least one way to make a living doing what makes you happy.  Before you assume that everyone is right, and you’ll never make it in your dream career, take a closer look and see if there is something that you can do!

Maintaining a Horse’s Stall at the Barn

Dirt packed floors are the most common floors used in barns, but they also require some of the most maintenance.  For one thing, every time you clean the stall, you are taking away minute, almost imperceptible layers of dirt.  For another thing, many horses like to pee in the same spot every time, which tends to wear away the floor over time — just like rainwater or a river erodes dirt and rock.

Therefore, dirt floors require a lot of maintenance in the barn.  As the floor is worn away, especially in the pee spots, fill dirt is needed to level out the floors again.  However, there are two problems with this: 1) the dirt needs to contain no rocks, which can get stuck in a horse’s feet and injure or even permanently lame him, and 2) the dirt needs to be packed down well, or the floor will be just as bad again within a matter of days.

One way to deal witht he first problem is to run the fill dirt through rock screens.  This is a portable screening machine, such as an EZ Screen, that filters out rocks and large particles, leaving just harmless dirt behind.

As for the second problem — well, the only way you can deal with it is to get the dirt as even as possible and then pack it down as best you can.  You can stomp on it, or maybe bring your horse in and walk him back and forth over it.

The best way to deal with both problems, of course, is to lay rubber stall mats over the dirt.  These are thick, interlocking mats that provide cushion for your horse and protect the dirt floor underneath from quite as much erosion.  The mats are supplemented with wood shavings or recycled paper shavings that are spread over them as bedding and to soak up the urine.

Location Matters Even on the Internet

The Internet is a virtual land of anonymity and instant global access.  Nonetheless, location is still important in a number of respects.  First of all, your website location is essential to its success.  This is how potential consumers and loyal patrons will be able to locate you and your eCommerce business site.  However, there are still important ways in which you can incorporate location and location assistance into your website design.  For example, if you are looking for help with your business in New York, you may prefer to use a company that is in New York.  Likewise, if you are located in Florida, you may prefer to work with a Florida website design firm.  Why would this be important to anyone?  Well, a lot of it has to do with simple familiarity.  It can be reassuring to work with a company or individual you are located near.

On top of that, there are a number of areas in the United States which are known for their educated and talented population.  This means that even if you are not located in that area, you may prefer to use the assistance of someone or some company in that area because of the high level of education for which the region is known.  For example, Florida SEO companies are fairly popular because of the schools and education of the area in general.  Tampa SEO companies may be even more prestigious because of the sophisticated and educated area known as the city of Tampa.
