One thing that is helpful in lowering the monthly expenses of residential gas bills is to enroll in the local gas provider’s budget bill pay program. It will allow the consumer to pay a set amount each month, regardless of the natural gas usage. It is beneficial to pay an equal monthly amount over the year, so that during the months of higher use, there won’t necessarily be an adverse affect.

Conserving energy, such as turning the thermostat down when not home, is also helpful. Homeowners can opt to have an inspection done to determine the efficiency of such things as natural gas appliances and space heaters. They will complete an assessment that includes checking for leaks and gauging flow measurement in pipes. It may be suggested to install a mass flow meter or possibly one of the digital flow meters. Installing a flow meter will help lower energy costs by regulating the flow for a more efficient system in the home.
