The healthcare industry is a great industry to be working in right now, especially considering the recession that currently threatens the country — healthcare professionals tend to be in high demand, so healthcare jobs tend to offer a lot of job security.
Of course, healthcare jobs do require training and certification, though not always as much as the famous 6 years or more of education that are required for a doctor’s degree. Here are 3 very attainable Tampa health care programs for those who are interested in working in the healthcare industry.
- Medical assisting. Doctors usually have a busy workload, so a lot depends on medical assistants — they pretty much keep the doctor’s office or hospital running smoothly. You might do something as basic as running the front desk or checking people’s blood pressure, or as complicated as assisting a surgeon. Either way, you need the proper training.
- Pharmacy work. Working in a pharmacy is a popular option for those who want to work in the industry, but not necessarily in a hospital. Working in a pharmacy requires specific knowledge and training, such as an understanding of the nature of drugs and how they can react with one another. You may be in a different environment, but people’s lives and well-being are still depending on you!
- Massage therapy. Believe it or not, massage therapy is an important part of people’s health. Tense muscles can detract from a person’s sense of physical well being; too much tension and physical stress can also create problems in other areas of physical health. To be an effective massage therapist, you need to know and have practiced the methods used to treat each individual condition.
Programs such as these are available at many different schools nationwide, such as the Sanford Brown Institute in Tampa. Sanford Brown, which is a very well-known school in the industry, also has other locations — for example, Sanford Brown Institute New York and Sanford Brown Milwaukee.
Whatever healthcare program you decide to go into, and wherever you decide to get your training, rest assured that you are getting into an exciting, fast-paced, and very secure job industry!

When I think about the mother of my childhood, I remember her doing yoga and gymnastics in the living room of our home. My mom loved exercising, and was always interested in trying out new things that were supposed to be good for the body. Consequently, I remember her doing a lot of yoga when I was a kid.
She practiced on a daily basis. She bought exercise videos on how to do yoga. She took yoga classes. My mom loved yoga.
More recently, I’ve begun hearing about something new, something called Dahn Yoga. I wonder what she would think of that? Of course, it sounds like Dahn Yoga might be a little harder or require more dedication than the "recreational yoga" my mom did, but still — I could see her really getting into this. Basically, Dahn Yoga is like tai chi, yoga, and martial arts, all combined. Although its founder, Ilchi Lee, started teaching Dahn Yoga in the 1980s, I think it’s been only in the last 15 years or so that it has gained national popularity.
Now you can find Dahn Yoga in New York, California, and in many other states. Chicago Dahn Yoga is also very popular.

When my sister and I were growing up, we had these crazy neighbors whom we were very scared of. It was an old couple with cranky dispositions and a backyard full of orchids. I can remember them yelling at us for climbing over our own fence, riding our bikes on the sidewalk (evidently they wanted us to get run over), and for setting our sprinklers so that the overspray watered their precious flowers.
Our neighbors put a lot of effort into their orchids, that’s for sure. If anyone ever was an expert on orchid flower care, it would be them! Seriously, if you asked them about phalaenopsis orchid care or cattleya care, you’d probably get a full lecture on the subject. They even experimented in creating their own hybrids.
Even though they still live next door to my parents today, they don’t seem to have changed much. I often joke that they were old 20 years ago, so what does that make them now…? They are still as cranky as ever, of course, although they don’t seem as scary now as they did when I was eight.

Many people, especially those with older cars, dread have to try to meet state inspections Houston requirements. Buying a hybrid vehicle offers a solution, at least to the emissions-related problems many auto owners face.
Getting an older vehicle to pass emissions can be difficult, as high mileage engines typically don’t run as clean as they did when they were still new. This may cause the owners of these cars to spend a lot of money on foreign and domestic automotive repair, compounding the costs associated with owning and driving an older vehicle.
Many newer cars, on the other hand, are being made with energy conservation — particularly gas mileage and emissions — in mind. Toyota is a great example of this: Not only is Toyota making and selling the most (and the best) hybrids out of all the car manufacturers, they are also planning on releasing a plug-in hybrid within the next couple of years. Although the car will no doubt require the expertise of specialty Asian automotive repair shops in order to perform regular maintenance and repairs, my guess is that most car owners will consider it well worth it if that means that they spend considerably less on gas — and can sleep better at night knowing they’re doing something to help the environment.

If you are interested in a career in the culinary arts, you will need to get a degree from a culinary institute. Your education will help you launch a career when you have little or no job experience in the industry.
Here are the steps you will need to take to find a culinary institute:
- Check the Internet. The Web is a great source and can really be helpful to you in your search. Don’t forget to search for schools in your area, though, or you’ll pull up the websites for all the culinary schools across the United States!
- Make a list of the schools in your area. Location should be a pretty effective way to narrow down the list of schools.
- Research the programs each school offers. Different schools offer different programs, so look at the culinary arts degree requirement for each school. Take note of the total credit hours required, and how they break down — how many classes in cooking, nutrition, management, etc.
- Research the cost of each school. Unless cost is not an issue for you, you will need to make sure the school you choose fits into your budget. Write down individual costs, as well as the total estimated cost — including classes, books, etc. — you will ultimately pay to attend each school.
- Research each school’s reputation. When you are looking to start a new career based solely on your education, you need to make sure your degree will pass muster with potential employers. The best way to do this is to actually call employers you would want to work with, and ask them what they typically think when they see a degree from a certain school on an applicant’s resume. You could also ask them which schools hold the most clout with them when they are choosing between applicants.
Once you have researched all of these things, you can start deciding between them. Prioritize what you want most out of your culinary training, and narrow your list down to the schools that offer this. Then you can start using other factors, the ones you consider still important but less so, to narrow down your list even more.
