Realizing What Our Parents Went Through

One of the things that I always hated about this time of year during my childhood was that August was school supply time. That meant that all of us kids were packed into the car and taken to the discount school supplies store where Mom would tell us what we could and what we couldn’t get. It always seemed like we couldn’t get anything that we really wanted. And the situation was even worse when we moved on to the discount clothing store where we’d purchase our new school clothes for the year.

My family wasn’t poor but we definitely weren’t made of money either and so Mom always had to scrimp and save to be able to get our school supplies. At the time, it irritated me and made me feel embarrassed about doing our shopping.

Now that I am grown up, I realize what it was that Mom was going through. She would have loved to get us the fancy Trapper Keeper and the expensive mechanical pencils and the big box of crayons with colors like chartreuse in it. She simply couldn’t afford to spend that much money on each of her kids at one time during the start of each new school year.

Pickup Truck Tool Boxes: Types and Styles

When it comes to pickup truck tool boxes and other storage units for your truck, trailer or RV, there’s no shortage of styles and models out there to suit your needs.

Smaller storage units known as tool totescan range anywhere from 16 to 32 inches, and are built for portability. They feature heavy-duty latches and handles to withstand constant carrying.

Trailer tongue tool boxes come in both standard and larger sizes to suit your storage needs, and are essential if you’re pulling any type of trailer. They can be used to store anything from a small cooler to equipment parts, helmets, ropes and more.

There are also all-purpose chest boxes which can be stacked for optimum storage. These come in a wide variety of dimensions to suit your needs, whether you require a unit that sits on the floor of your truck bed, or inside your RV, trailer, garage, boat and more.

Most quality pickup truck tool boxes such as those above come with a diamond plate aluminum finish and are also available in a black or white powder coat, typically at an additional cost. These finishes are more durable than painted steel, which can become scratched, rusted and otherwise battered after years of use.

What’s Involved in Caregiver Training

My little sister called me up the other day and told me that she thinks that she wants to attend a caregiver training program so that she can work with elderly patients as a personal assistant in their home. She wanted to know if I knew what was going to be required of her as she went through this kind of training.

I haven’t ever actually done caregiver training before but I’ve taken enough classes to know the basics of what she is probably going to be doing. I can’t imagine that training in home care providers is a lot different than any of the other training out there for personal care or social work assistants and those are classes that I have taken.

I told my sister that she would most likely get a textbook that she would have to work through and that she would be tested on the material. I also figured that the classes would involve watching informative dvds about topics related to the subject (alzheimer’s training dvds for example) and that there might be guest lecturers who have worked in the field.

Basically, I told her that she would be learning what she needed to know to be capable of doing the job. "Do you think that I can do it?" she asked me. And since I’m her big sister I told her that of course she can.
